TF2, CS:S, DoD:S and HL2:DM Updates Released

Updates to Team Fortress 2, Counter-Strike: Source, Day of Defeat: Source and Half-Life 2: Deathmatch have been released. The updates will be applied automatically when your Steam client is restarted. The major changes include:

Source Engine Changes (CS:S, DoD:S, TF2, HL2:DM)
  • Fixed a bug with voice recording intermittently not recording after playing in a level for a while (Mac)
  • Fixed a rare client crash caused by text rendering (Mac)
  • Updated the server browser localization files

Steam client update released

A Steam client update is now available. To apply the update, click the File menu inside of Steam and then select "Check for Steam Client Updates...". The specific changes include:

Steam
  • Updating store pages to show stats and launch options for games you own.
  • Updated Speex and JPEG libraries
  • Fix a memory leak when toggling the game viewed in the details view
  • Fix a crash when receiving and merging updated data for stats/achievements in some situations
  • Fix sometimes failing to fully recognize a game as exited for certain launcher app setups
  • Fixed navigating to game guides in the store
  • Fix Steam Cloud bug where users who converted from the demo to the full version of Everyday Genius: SquareLogic, Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light, or Jolly Rover would have their progress reverted to the progress they made in the demo while opted into the beta
  • Fixed community chat bug
  • Fixed displaying Steam Service dialog under OSX
  • Fixed a couple rare crashes and added more instrumentation around potential memory corruption
  • Fixed Steam API logging
  • Improve tooltips support under OSX
  • Added installer support under OSX for an upcoming game release

TF2, CS:S and DoD:S Updates Released

Updates to Team Fortress 2 and Counter-Strike: Source have been released. The updates will be applied automatically when your Steam client is restarted. The major changes include:

Shared Changes (CS:S, DoD:S, TF2, HL2:DM)
  • ServerBrowser now sorts by ping by default once again.
  • Fixed Mac crash on launch when running Mac OSX 10.5.8.
  • Fixed spectator bug where spectating a Sniper looking through scope didn't zoom fov

A Steam client update is now available. To apply the update, click the File menu inside of Steam and then select "Check for Steam Client Updates...". The specific changes include:

Steam
  • Added support to update AMD/ATI video drivers
  • Bug fixes in JPEG decoding of images with embedded EXIF profiles
  • Crash fix in voice chat
  • SteamService uninstall improvements
  • Improved in-game overlay compatibility with some third-party software
  • Improved in-game overlay browser forward/back navigation

Steam client update released

A Steam client update is now available. To apply the update, click the File menu inside of Steam and then select "Check for Steam Client Updates...". The specific changes include:

Steam
  • Fix a bug where installing a game with a demo may not initial install all content with some left to download on first launch
  • Fix a bug with ISteamNetworking getting available packet size for Steamworks Partners
  • Steam Cloud improvements to support save games in more cases for Steamworks Partners
  • Windows: Fix a case where minidumping due to an error could deadlock the client on startup or shutdown
  • Windows: Fix a memory leak that could lead to too much memory used or a crash if you remained in a busy group chat for several days
  • Mac: Fix client errantly opening a script in a text editor at startup (rare bug)

CS:S, TF2 and DoD:S Updates Released

Updates to Counter-Strike: Source, Team Fortress 2 and Day of Defeat: Source have been released. The updates will be applied automatically when your Steam client is restarted. The major changes include:

Source Engine Changes (CS:S, DoD:S, TF2)
  • Fixed a crash on startup with some video drivers
  • Fixed a bug where the speaker config would be lost on Windows Vista / 7
  • Fixed a case where alt-tab would stop rendering models
  • Made the ‘X’ that closes the achievements screen visible by default in 1280x720 resolution
  • Made disconnect messages wrap so they don’t get truncated
  • Made kick / disconnect messages more legible

Steam client update released

A Steam client update is now available. To apply the update, click the File menu inside of Steam and then select "Check for Steam Client Updates...". The specific changes include:

New Features
  • Updated friends chats to use new tabbed chat interface (see Friends tab in the Settings dialog to turn off opening in new tabs by default)
  • Updated in-game overlay browser to use new tabbed browsing interface (Use Middle click on links to open-in-new-tab)
  • Tabbed Browser/Chat HotKeys: Ctrl-Tab and Ctrl-Shift-Tab to switch tabs. Ctrl-W, Ctrl-F4 or Middle click to close tabs.
  • Updated WebKit code for client/in-game browser (improved stability and performance on OSX, various browser fixes)
  • Windows: 64 bit build of the in-game overlay (useable now with any 64bit non-Steam game you may add)
  • Windows: 64 bit builds of Steamworks DLLs (for upcoming titles)

Fixes
  • New non-blocking game uninstall dialog
  • Improved client shutdown times
  • Fix some cases of Steam becoming unresponsive for 5-10 seconds when new game updates are released
  • Fixed unused game tags still showing up
  • Reinstalling from a goldmaster triggers a content verification if the game is already installed
  • Fixed sometimes needing to restart Steam after installing PhysX
  • Changed overlay hot-key detection to not consider ctrl-shift-tab to be the same as shift-tab, thus allowing its use in tabbed chat/browsing in-game

  • Windows: Improved overlay compatibility with some previously conflicting third party applications
  • Windows: Fixes to progress bar on win7 task icon in handling paused downloads as well as finished downloads

Updates to the Source SDK have been released. The updates will be applied automatically when your Steam client is restarted. The specific changes include:

Hammer
  • Fixed bug in which the model browser can become unresponsive
  • Game overlay no longer attaches to Hammer which fixes incorrect 3D camera position bugs
  • Google Sketchup to Hammer exporter now ships in the Source SDK

  • The Faceposer phoneme editor now pops up a warning message when a phoneme cannot be saved
  • Fixed crash in 'splitskybox.exe'

Source SDK Beta Update Released

A new Source SDK Beta has been released. To access the Beta, go to File -> Settings, and on the Account tab will be a drop down. Select Source SDK Beta, and then allow Steam to restart itself. The specific changes for this Beta include:

Enhancements
  • Particle Editor, Material Editor, and Commentary Editor are now included in the Source SDK
  • Updated SDK source code for Orange Box mods

Bug Fixes

Known Issues

Updates to Source SDK have been released. The updates will be applied automatically when your Steam client is restarted. The specific changes include:

Enhancements
  • Added a drop-down list in the SDK Launcher that allows the user to switch between The Orange Box engine and the Half-Life 2: Episode One engine
  • Two new lighting preview modes are available in Hammer
  • Models are automatically centered when loaded in Faceposer

Bug Fixes
  • Fixed crash and corrupt configurations for users that don’t own any Orange Box games
  • Resolved issues with building models for any games that that use the Half-Life 2:Episode 1 engine
  • Fixed crashes in Hammer and Faceposer when HL2 is set to the active game

Known Issues
  • Cannot create shortcuts to Hammer, Faceposer, and Model Viewer
  • Linux makefiles for the Orange Box source code are incomplete and will be updated in the next release
  • The Particle Editor is not presently included in the Source SDK
  • SDK shader code only included with mods built to use Half-Life 2:Episode 1

Source SDK Update Released

A major update to the Source SDK has been released on Steam. Included in this update are major features and fixes for the tools in the Source SDK. The updates will be applied automatically when your Steam client is restarted. The specific changes include:

Major New Features
  • Half-Life 2: Episode One enhancements
  • NPC behavior enhancements
  • New Tool application called 'Source SDK Base'
    • Uses the latest shipping version of the Source Engine (HL2: Episode One)
    • This content will be updated whenever a new version of the Source Engine ships
    • Mod makers should always use its SteamAppId (215) in their single player and multi-player mods
  • Many other improvements and bug fixes

Source Engine Update Available

Updates to the Source Engine have been released. The updates will be applied automatically when your Steam client is restarted. The specific changes include:

Graphics
  • Fixed occasional graphics artifact tearing run running on Nvidia 6800 hardware
  • Fixed mismatch of bumpmapped/non-bumpmapped surfaces in HDR
  • Fixed bug where mat_colorcorrection wasn't getting set properly on when running for the first time
  • Updated default configuration settings for some newer video cards
  • Fixed full-screen flicker bug when Alt-Tabbing out of fullscreen (particularly at high resolutions)

User Interface
  • Added progress bar state to print a description when the server changes levels
  • Show disconnect dialog when client connection times out
  • Fixed anti-aliasing on fonts
  • Fixed a memory leak in vgui
  • Fix for startup video not showing correctly if running fullscreen with desktop resolution less than or equal to 1024x768
  • Fixed bug where game would crash when taking a bug screenshot if the screen/window resolution was wider that 2048 pixels

Sound
  • Fixed sound initializing twice at startup in some cases
  • Optimized sound engine performance
  • Fixed a bug where machines without proper sound hardware and/or drivers would crash

SourceTV
  • Added SourceTV port and delay time to status output if SourceTV is active
  • Added new command net_status that shows more detailed information about total and average packet loss, latency, packets/sec and bandwidth
  • Added convar tv_autoretry 1 so relay proxies try to reconnect after connection crashed/timed out
  • Added convar tv_timeout to specify connection timeout limit in seconds
  • Improved spectator client dispatching, should be faster and balance better
  • Fixed SourceTV relays being unable to connect to sv_lan 1 servers
  • Fixed SourceTV servers reporting password restrictions
  • Fixed SourceTV bots joining game even if disabled
  • Fixed disappearing weapons in SourceTV
  • Fixed spectator chat not displaying on relay proxies
  • Fixed SourceTV crash during changelevel
  • Fixed command tv_record crashing relay proxies
  • Reduced SourceTV CPU requirements

Source Engine SDK Update Released

A major update to the Source SDK has been released on Steam. Included in this update are several features and fixes for the tools in the Source SDK.

New SDK Features
  • High Dynamic Range lighting now supported in the tools
  • Day of Defeat: Source support now included
  • New Hammer Editor features:
    • VGUI Model browser with real-time 3D view
    • Map autosave/backup
    • Model and displacement rendering in 2D views
    • Many other small improvements and bug fixes

Day of Defeat: Source Update Available

Updates to Day of Defeat: Source have been released. The updates will be applied automatically when your Steam client is restarted. The specific changes include:

  • Allied Garand is now more accurate
  • Allied 30cal machine gun is now more accurate
  • Made the garand sight ring larger when in iron sights.
  • Moved Axis k98 rifle iron sight model away from the player slightly.
  • View model no longer sways in iron sight mode
  • Decreased the recoil on the Allied Garand when in iron sights.
  • Fixed bug where Allied 30cal machine gun would remove stamina when firing an empty gun
  • Improved weapon pickup to search in radius around crosshair
  • Fixed prediction bug where players would get stuck together
  • Added an end of round statistics panel to highlight the most valuable contributors to the winning team.
  • Increased footstep volume
  • Updated firing sounds for both Allied and Axis machine guns.
  • Game now uploads a stats blob to steam on level change or shutdown. Contains info about scoring, weapon and class performance and server settings. We'll be creating a web page for the community to view these stats soon. (These are not statistics about individual players, just aggregate across the entire Day of Defeat Source community.)
  • Added life id to damage record in console
  • Fixed bug that would produce '0 damage in x hits' in damage record
  • Added cvar "hud_takesshots" - Setting this to 1 will take a screen shot at the end of the game with the scoreboard included.
  • Updated the death notice hud element
  • Fixed logging error where player index was used instead of userid for cap and block messages
  • Winning and losing teams can now chat during the bonus round * no longer show (dead) prefix during this period.
  • Fixed bug where last character of a players name would be cut off.
  • Added defense icon to death notice defense event instead of "Defended" text
  • Fixed bug where you could jump while in the process of going prone
  • Fixed animation bug when an assault player dropped his primary weapon and didn't have a pistol or grenades.
  • Force exact file consistency on smoke grenade materials and weapon scripts
  • Optimizations to lag compensation
  • Added voice command variations
  • Optimizations to debris physboxes

Day of Defeat: Source and Source Engine Updates Available

Updates to Day of Defeat: Source and the Source Engine have been released. The updates will be applied automatically when your Steam client is restarted. The specific changes include:

Source Engine
  • Fixed some video cards being incorrectly set to DX9 when they should have been DX8. This would cause a significant performance problem for affected hardware
  • Changed refresh behavior of server browser. Old behavior was generating too much traffic when list was not open
  • Fixed bug where VAC would sometimes hold onto .dlls after a game had been shut down completely
  • Fixed a crash which could sometimes occur immediately after launching a game

Day of Defeat: Source
  • Added the default mapcycle.txt to servers running Day of Defeat: Source
  • Fixed crash bug when using %s in your player name

Source Dedicated Server
  • Fixed bug in dedicated server engine that incorrectly displayed their anti-cheat status (servers were showing as insecure, but were running in secure mode)

Source SDK Update Released

A Source SDK update is available and will be applied automatically when Steam is restarted. The changes include:

Source SDK
  • Fixed "bCloseSuccessful" bug in Hammer with directory trees too deep
  • Added faceposer
  • Included view model sources for Half-Life 2
  • Revised directory structure - content and sources are kept separate
  • Added presets for expert compiles within Hammer
  • Fixed problems with launching the game from within Hammer
  • Hammer's Game Configurations UI now displays the active configuration on entry
  • Hammer now displays paths in a more readable manner
  • Create a Mod puts the mod content into the SourceMods folder (shows up in Steam's games list)
  • Added vconfig - a tool to handle specifying the current game you're editing
  • Fixes for various cases of path environment variables not working
  • Buildcubemaps fixed
  • Improved startup speed of the SDK launcher
  • Simplified debugging under Steam (eliminated the need to copy steam.dll and make steamapp.cfg)

Steam Client / Source SDK Update Released

A platform update is available and will be applied automatically when Steam is restarted. The changes include:

Steam
  • Source MODs will now automatically appear in the games list
  • Improved startup process for Steam
  • Fixed crash when creating a backup that would span multiple DVDs
  • Fixed a bug that would unnecessarily validate Steam caches after a cache corruption
  • Fixed Condition Zero: Deleted Scenes and Codename Gordon failing to backup correctly
  • Fixed a bug where the message "the game files will be deleted and re-acquired" would repeat
  • Fixed offline mode failing after not connecting to Steam for more than a month

Half-Life 2
  • Optimization to the Steam filesystem to reduce game launch and level transition time

Source SDK
  • Simplified debug-launch process for MOD developers. MOD developers no longer need to place a config file in their directory
