Steam client update released

A Steam client update is now available. To apply the update, click the File menu inside of Steam and then select "Check for Steam Client Updates...". The specific changes include:

Steam
  • Made various improvements to Recommendations:
    • Made some general improvements to the algorithm to make "Similar Items" a little more similar
    • Changed primary source for generated recommendations to be recent playtime rather than recent purchases, prioritizing "new to you" games (ie, games where your recent playtime makes up the bulk of your total playtime for that game)
    • Fixed DLC recommendations showing for games you haven't really played yet
    • Games you've recommended will now be shown on your community profile page
    • Fixed friend recommendations for free games you haven't yet played to show on your recommended page just like friend recommendations for games you don't own.
    • Added links to the new "Friend Activity" page to the store homepage and community home panel.
  • Added Turkish translation to the Steam client
  • [Windows] Chinese, Japanese, and Korean typing support in the in-game overlay, for some games
  • Fixed a case where a hyperlink in chat could take you to a player’s profile instead
  • Fixed community opening to your profile instead of the blotter when community is your favorite window (thanks Sir_Brizz!)
  • Improved Matchmaking function performance
  • Fixed starting game executables with very long command line parameters (>255 characters)
  • Fixed keyboard navigation in menus
  • [Mac OSX] Overlay improved (works with Farming Simulator) and fixed an OpenGL state bug
  • [Mac OSX] Implemented Minimize Cmd-M menu command.
  • [Mac OSX] Improved Cmd-W to be more reliable
  • Fix games not launching after resolving a Cloud conflict
  • [Mac OSX] Fix layout on file open dialog when adding a non-Steam game
  • Fix layout on server browser dialog
  • Removed code for the now-ended Civilization V charity promotion
  • [Mac OS X] Fixed cursor not showing up in game overlay on some games
  • [Mac OS X] Dock Icon will not persistently bounce once it has a badge with a count of pending IMs.
  • Fixed Steam not remembering Cloud settings in certain situations.

Steam client update released

A Steam client update is now available. To apply the update, click the File menu inside of Steam and then select "Check for Steam Client Updates...". The specific changes include:

Steam
  • Fixed Steam Cloud showing as endlessly syncing for some games
  • Fixed a case where Steamworks matchmaking could lose some keys set in the lobby, when running against the new matchmaking server
  • Fixed an issue where some windows could appear briefly before they were ready to be shown
  • Fixed game download stalling for some users when downloading games with DLC
  • Windows: Fixed Steam client update stalling for some users with HSDPA modems
  • Windows: Fixed compatibility for in-game overlay and games calling GetRawInputBuffer
  • Windows: Improved performance of .dmp file writing on client asserts/crashes
  • OSX: Improved retail game install to minimize amount of game data that needs to be downloaded after initial install
  • OSX: Fixed badge count listed as ‘1’ after auto-joining a server using the server browser

Steam client update released

A Steam client update is now available. To apply the update, click the File menu inside of Steam and then select "Check for Steam Client Updates...". The specific changes include:

Steam
  • Updating store pages to show stats and launch options for games you own.
  • Updated Speex and JPEG libraries
  • Fix a memory leak when toggling the game viewed in the details view
  • Fix a crash when receiving and merging updated data for stats/achievements in some situations
  • Fix sometimes failing to fully recognize a game as exited for certain launcher app setups
  • Fixed navigating to game guides in the store
  • Fix Steam Cloud bug where users who converted from the demo to the full version of Everyday Genius: SquareLogic, Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light, or Jolly Rover would have their progress reverted to the progress they made in the demo while opted into the beta
  • Fixed community chat bug
  • Fixed displaying Steam Service dialog under OSX
  • Fixed a couple rare crashes and added more instrumentation around potential memory corruption
  • Fixed Steam API logging
  • Improve tooltips support under OSX
  • Added installer support under OSX for an upcoming game release

TF2, CS:S and DoD:S Updates Released

Updates to Team Fortress 2 and Counter-Strike: Source have been released. The updates will be applied automatically when your Steam client is restarted. The major changes include:

Shared Changes (CS:S, DoD:S, TF2, HL2:DM)
  • ServerBrowser now sorts by ping by default once again.
  • Fixed Mac crash on launch when running Mac OSX 10.5.8.
  • Fixed spectator bug where spectating a Sniper looking through scope didn't zoom fov

  • Steam will now use the language selected in the retail installer instead of the current UI language when installing from disc
  • Fixed a Steam overlay crash on OSX
  • Removed redundant names and improved displaying a large number of tabs in tabbed chat windows
  • Fixed web browser layout
  • Fixed tab chat dropdown menu flashing for new message in hidden chat page
  • Mac Overlay crashes fixed when trying to render to a screen with no game objects being drawn
  • Mac Retail install support for install in non-english languages
  • Mac support for detecting 10.6.4 with the Apple Snow Leopard Graphics Update (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4286) installed

  • Added support to update AMD/ATI video drivers
  • Bug fixes in JPEG decoding of images with embedded EXIF profiles
  • Crash fix in voice chat
  • SteamService uninstall improvements
  • Improved in-game overlay compatibility with some third-party software
  • Improved in-game overlay browser forward/back navigation

TF2, CS:S and DoD:S Updates Released

Updates to Team Fortress 2, Counter-Strike: Source and Day of Defeat: Source have been released. The updates will be applied automatically when your Steam client is restarted. The major changes include:

Source Engine Changes (CS:S, DoD:S, TF2)
  • Disabled clients loading server plug-ins unless the plug-ins are signed by Steam or the client is running in insecure mode.
  • Added a checkbox to the Options->Audio dialog to control muting the audio when the game window is in the background.

Steam
  • Fix a bug where installing a game with a demo may not initial install all content with some left to download on first launch
  • Fix a bug with ISteamNetworking getting available packet size for Steamworks Partners
  • Steam Cloud improvements to support save games in more cases for Steamworks Partners
  • Windows: Fix a case where minidumping due to an error could deadlock the client on startup or shutdown
  • Windows: Fix a memory leak that could lead to too much memory used or a crash if you remained in a busy group chat for several days
  • Mac: Fix client errantly opening a script in a text editor at startup (rare bug)

A Steam client update is now available. To apply the update, click the File menu inside of Steam and then select "Check for Steam Client Updates...". The specific changes include:

New Features
  • Updated friends chats to use new tabbed chat interface (see Friends tab in the Settings dialog to turn off opening in new tabs by default)
  • Updated in-game overlay browser to use new tabbed browsing interface (Use Middle click on links to open-in-new-tab)
  • Tabbed Browser/Chat HotKeys: Ctrl-Tab and Ctrl-Shift-Tab to switch tabs. Ctrl-W, Ctrl-F4 or Middle click to close tabs.
  • Updated WebKit code for client/in-game browser (improved stability and performance on OSX, various browser fixes)
  • Windows: 64 bit build of the in-game overlay (useable now with any 64bit non-Steam game you may add)
  • Windows: 64 bit builds of Steamworks DLLs (for upcoming titles)

Fixes
  • New non-blocking game uninstall dialog
  • Improved client shutdown times
  • Fix some cases of Steam becoming unresponsive for 5-10 seconds when new game updates are released
  • Fixed unused game tags still showing up
  • Reinstalling from a goldmaster triggers a content verification if the game is already installed

A Steam client update is now available. To apply the update, click the File menu inside of Steam and then select "Check for Steam Client Updates...". The specific changes include:

Steam Client
  • Fixed words immediately followed by a newline not wrapping properly.
  • Fixed the "Login" button in the login dialog from being enabled when no text has been entered in either field.
  • Fixed the "Next" button in the retrieve account wizard being enabled when no text has been entered.
  • Fixed the "Next" button in the activate CD key dialog being enabled when no text has been entered.
  • Improved error messages for certain purchase failures
  • Fixed "multiple cache instantiation error" on game launch
  • Fix crashes that could occur while typing over a selection with an IME enabled
  • When receiving the “chat from new user” introduction dialog, make a click on the other correspondent’s avatar go to their profile
  • Better hit testing and copy-to-clipboard behavior in chat windows
  • Fixed occasional stuttering caused by unlocking achievements.
  • Extended Steam Hardware Survey to now be the Steam Hardware & Software Survey

Day Of Defeat Now Available On Steam For Mac Users

Hey, Mac owners, you can now play Day of Defeat, courtesy of Steam.

Day of Defeat: Source Now Available on Mac

This week, Valve has added another title from its classic catalog into the growing Mac game library. Day of Defeat: Source now joins Portal, Team Fortress 2, Half-Life 2 and Counter-Strike Source as a native title for Apple's computer platform
Day of Defeat: Source launches for Mac as a SteamPlay title, allowing current owners of the PC version the option to also download and play it on Mac machines. As a SteamPlay title, users from both platforms can also face-off against each other on the World War II-inspired battlefield.










Day of Defeat began life as a Half-Life mod in 2000 before being purchased and sold by Valve, and publisher Activision, in 2003. In September 2005, Day of Defeat: Source was released.
